  • Positive Test after IVF

    Hey all,

I am pretty far in on my fertility journey and couldn’t wait for my blood test to confirm that our transfer worked. The home test kits came back positive and I’m a bit fearful about a false positive. I did not have a trigger shot this cycle or the previous, I am currently taking progesterone oil, estrogen patches and had medrol on the 26-29. I know that progesterone and estrogen would not create a false positive but am unsure of Medrol. Any insight? It has been a very long journey so I’m trying not to celebrate too soon.

what are your thoughts? Is it actually happening? We are currently 9 days post embryo transfer.

    thank you.

Congratulations on the positive home pregnancy test! It's understandable to be cautious and want to confirm the result with a blood test.

In general, medications such as progesterone and estrogen used in fertility treatments should not cause a false positive pregnancy test result. Medrol should not cause a false positive pregnancy test, as it does not contain the hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), which is the hormone that pregnancy tests detect. However, it's always a good idea to confirm the result with a blood test, which can measure the exact level of hCG in your blood.

At 9 days post-embryo transfer, it is possible that the positive result is accurate, but it's important to remember that false positives can occur, although they are relatively rare. It's best to wait for the blood test to confirm the pregnancy and speak with your fertility specialist about the next steps.

Wishing you all the best on your fertility journey!

It sounds like you're referring to a positive pregnancy test after undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF). Congratulations! A positive pregnancy test after IVF is a significant milestone and an exciting moment for couples or individuals who have been through the process.

Here are a few things to consider and keep in mind:
      1. Confirmation: While a positive pregnancy test is a great sign, it's important to confirm the pregnancy with a blood test at your IVF clinic. This blood test will measure the levels of the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin), which is produced during pregnancy. The blood test will provide more accurate and detailed information about the pregnancy.
      2. Monitoring: After a positive pregnancy test, your IVF clinic will likely schedule further appointments for monitoring. This may involve additional blood tests and ultrasounds to track the progress of the pregnancy and ensure that everything is developing as it should.
      3. Early Stages: In the early stages of pregnancy, there is always a level of uncertainty, especially after fertility treatments like IVF. While a positive pregnancy test is a wonderful step, it's important to manage expectations and stay cautiously optimistic until you receive further confirmation through medical tests.
      4. Support: Going through IVF and experiencing a positive pregnancy test can be emotionally overwhelming. It's essential to have a strong support system in place, whether it's your partner, family, friends, or a support group for individuals who have undergone fertility treatments.
      5. Health and Well-being: As with any pregnancy, it's crucial to prioritize your health and well-being. Follow your doctor's advice, take any prescribed medications, and make sure to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
      6. Potential Risks and Complications: While the majority of IVF pregnancies result in successful outcomes, it's important to be aware of the potential risks and complications that can arise during pregnancy. Regular prenatal care and open communication with your healthcare provider are key to addressing any concerns.

Remember that each pregnancy journey is unique, and while a positive pregnancy test is a positive step, it's important to stay patient and follow your doctor's guidance throughout the entire process. Congratulations again, and I wish you a healthy and joyful pregnancy journey!
